Background of the Study

Workforce diversity refers to the inclusion of individuals from various demographic backgrounds, including differences in race, gender, ethnicity, age, and cultural perspectives, within an organization. The growing emphasis on workforce diversity is due to its potential to enhance creativity, improve problem-solving capabilities, and increase organizational competitiveness (Cox & Blake, 2023). Human Resource (HR) policies play a crucial role in fostering diversity by creating inclusive hiring practices, equal opportunities, and promoting a culture of respect and inclusion.

Lafarge Cement, one of Nigeria's leading cement manufacturers, operates in Yobe State and has made significant efforts to implement HR policies that promote workforce diversity. However, despite these efforts, challenges remain in fully realizing the potential benefits of a diverse workforce, including overcoming unconscious biases in recruitment, promoting equitable career development opportunities, and addressing workplace discrimination.

This study aims to appraise the HR policies at Lafarge Cement in Yobe State and evaluate their impact on workforce diversity, focusing on how these policies influence employee satisfaction, productivity, and organizational performance.

Statement of the Problem

While Lafarge Cement has implemented various HR policies aimed at promoting workforce diversity, there is limited research on the effectiveness of these policies in creating a truly diverse and inclusive work environment.
